San Pedro de Alcántara
Authentic and active
San Pedro is one of the oldest centers in the municipality of Marbella. The town was founded in the 19th century as an agricultural colony and has grown into a lively coastal town where local charm and international influences come together beautifully. The paseo marítimo is wide and modern, ideal for cyclists, walkers, and families. You can drive or walk for miles along the sea, from Los Monteros in the east to San Pedro and on to Guadalmina.
In the center, you will find shops, tapas bars, bakeries, and restaurants that are open all year round, plus a large industrial area where you can find just about everything, from decoration and kitchens to craft workshops. San Pedro is also one of the few places where you don't really need a car. Everything is within walking or cycling distance: schools, shops, the beach, cafes, parks, and sports clubs. This combination makes it particularly popular with families and full-time residents who really want to live like the locals.
Guadalmina
Classic Marbella by the sea
Just west of San Pedro lies Guadalmina, an established and elegant residential area with a classic feel. The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, dating from 1959, is one of the oldest courses in Spain and literally runs right up to the beach, a rarity that you will only find at Río Real.
The atmosphere is peaceful, the avenues are wide, and the gardens are mature and green. Guadalmina is practical, comfortable, and residential. Thanks to its proximity to Laude International School and its central location between San Pedro and Puerto Banús, the real estate market here has received a significant boost in recent years. It is a neighborhood with character, not new, but timeless.
La Quinta & Benahavís
Altitude, views, and gastronomy
Drive a little further inland and the scenery changes: the air becomes fresher, the views more expansive, and life a little quieter. La Quinta is located on the slopes of Benahavís and combines modern urban developments with panoramic views of the sea and mountains. The golf course and accompanying hotel resort attract both golfers and wellness enthusiasts.
Benahavís itself is a charming mountain village known as the culinary heart of the Costa del Sol. With narrow streets, viewpoints, dozens of restaurants and tapas bars within walking distance of each other, it is the place where locals and visitors drive to for a relaxed evening meal in the mountains. A little closer to Marbella is Los Arqueros, with its authentic Mediterranean atmosphere, winding roads, and spectacular panoramic views of the valley.
