As you drive further west, past Estepona, the rhythm changes. The coast opens up, the development becomes less dense, and the whole area feels quieter and more residential. This is a different side of the Costa del Sol.
Estepona West and Manilva
More space, less hustle and bustle
West of Estepona, the atmosphere immediately feels quieter. Residential developments are more spread out, the pace slows down, and daily life revolves less around the main thoroughfare.
Manilva fits right in with this. Slightly less developed, slightly more authentic, but precisely for that reason appealing to those who don’t want to be in the thick of the hustle and bustle. It’s an area that’s still evolving, without losing its local character.
Sotogrande
A well-established name
Sotogrande needs no introduction. For years, it has been one of the most established residential areas in southern Spain. The combination of golf, polo, the marina, and international schools creates an environment centered on quality of life and continuity.
What stands out most here is the tranquility. Large villas, tree-lined avenues, a beautiful marina, and beaches that remain remarkably wide and quiet, even in high season. Everything feels well-thought-out and in balance.
Alcaidesa
Outlook and evolution
Just past Sotogrande lies Alcaidesa. With views of Gibraltar and the African coast, this place has an openness that is rare on the Costa del Sol. Golf also plays an important role here.
There has been a lot of activity here in recent years. New projects and high-end hospitality, such as the Fairmont hotel, show that this region is gradually taking the next step.
