How Liezl and Gilles embarked on a new path at Chapter
From local real estate agency to Chapter franchisees in East Flanders. In two years, Liezl and Gilles built a strong reputation in Oosterzele, Zottegem, and Oudenaarde. Not with grand ambitions on paper, but with a keen eye for what the market demanded and the conviction to respond to it at the right level.
Your story as franchisees began modestly. How has it grown?
"We started small, in an office space in our parents' house. But we knew the region, we knew the people, and we believed in what we were building. The results followed. And with them, demand.
Today, we work from our Chapter office in Oosterzele, but the basis has remained the same. At a certain point, you see a pattern: a group of buyers and sellers who are looking for something different.
More peace and quiet, more discretion, an approach that suits exceptional properties. You couldn't ignore that pattern."
And then came the move to Chapter?
"Actually, that step was logical. We had the experience, the regional roots, and a clear picture of what that segment needs. Chapter offered the structure and positioning to take that to the right level. It immediately felt right."
What makes exclusive real estate different to manage?
"You can't approach the higher segment in the same way as the rest of the market. Every property has its own story, its own character. An authentic farmhouse with panoramic views requires a different approach than a modern penthouse. What matters is that you understand that story. And that you know who you're telling it to."
What do customers in this segment expect from their real estate agent?
"Peace of mind and trust. A fully customized approach. No standard processes, no unnecessary fuss. Customers in this segment want to know that their property, and their story, is in good hands. That requires time, attention, and discretion. That is what we strive for every day."
"You can't approach the higher segment in the same way as the rest of the market. It requires more discretion, more refinement, and above all, more personal guidance."
Gilles Deschuyter
You are not doing this alone. Who is part of your story?
"That's right. For the past two years, Grace has been an indispensable part of our story. Together, we form a team that combines craftsmanship and commitment. Our connection to the region and our personal approach are the constants. Behind us is the head office in Loppem, De Compromis, which provides support in the areas of marketing, strategy, and guidance. This gives us the space to focus entirely on what matters: the customer and the property."
What are you most grateful for?
"For the trust of our customers. People who entrust us with their property don't do so lightly. That realization drives us. And for Grace, who is putting her weight behind this story."
